ahh nervous to post this (first time writing for him!) but excited about this gorgeous moodboard I recieved for Summer Lovin’ 24! 🏕️💖 thanks so much for hosting @pedgito, @amanitacowboy, and @chaotic-mystery!

Dieter really can talk you into anything.
The official table read is on Monday, scenes due to start shooting soon after. You really shouldn’t be thirty miles out of town right now - leaving the comforts of your apartment and the air conditioning of the limo, to hike another mile into the forest.
But you’ll trade the luxury for a chance to spend time with him. An old spot, he said. His dad’s cousin’s place, bought it off him when they needed the money. Been in the family for years.
“You gotta immerse yourself,” Dieter had told you, his arms spreading wide, “What better place to practice lines than here?”
It’s your first time in a movie with him. You’re not sure if he’s really a method actor. Equally not sure that it’s needed for a movie called Campground Carnage II - or if the city just seemed a little too loud, a little too busy.
Deep down, you hope it might just be an excuse to get you alone.
You'd be pretty alright with that.
It’s been hard to sneak around Los Angeles. There’s cameras everywhere. An obsession with one Dieter Bravo - the current hottest, most eccentric star.
You’d met before his last big break. Reading lines for Covert Affairs, but they had passed over the mutual chemistry for an actress with a little more weight to her name.
He had gotten the part, and you had gotten his number. Two desperate hookups when you both ended up in Vegas at the same time.
Only to come back together a year later.
“Long Island,” He had smiled, when he saw you, “Good to see you again.”
You had been surprised he remembered you, much less the drink he had bought. Enough alcohol in both your systems that you would’ve forgiven him if he had.
Not that you would have, though. Not with that mouth of his.
Something that you’re thinking about now, as the trees clear. The cabin tucked between them - a peeking sliver of a river cutting through the terrain behind it.
A cozy little thing, not much bigger than the apartment you’re missing. Built with thick wooden logs, two tidy windows out front, the checkered curtain pulled shut.
The key ring twirls on his finger, as Dieter moves ahead to unlock the door.
You can’t help appreciating the view, as he does. This ‘camping’ look suits him. It’s almost enough to make you a little jealous of his ability to look good in anything and everything he throws on.
A tight black tee, the hat that’s pulled down over his messy curls. Featuring an embroidered trout, with “fish want me, women fear me” scripted above and below that he found at a garage sale. Patterned crocs with matching shorts that only reach mid-thigh.
And you're at least 45-percent sure the fanny pack around his waist is filled with condoms and KitKats.
It’s been hard to keep your mind off him, on the drive over. Battering his wandering hands away, with the driver only a few feet from you. Still shy, both enthralled and not used to his open affection.
Trying to concentrate on the script. Preparing to run lines, just in case his suggestion for this weekend wasn’t some kind of euphemism.
But you kept going back to a particular scene. The two counselors - that’s you and him - sneaking off to one of the cabins in the campground.
A steamy encounter involving both the top and bottom of a bunk bed, and a lot of Bravo on his knees. Anything to showcase his physique, you’re already picturing how they’ll stage it with the female gaze in mind.
Bare back, you’re guessing. A hint of ass, but still tasteful.
The scene a fake-out - featuring a jump scare, with the shadow of a person passing by the windows behind you. Tapping into that classic trope - first to fuck, first to die.
Which might be true - if it was his first movie.
He doesn’t actually make it to the end, though. Dieter’s demise coming from a staged accident in the fishing lake, just as the movie lulls into a sense of safely. One final blow before the big reveal.
You know people will be pissed about that. As a fan of the series, even you are a little.
But the thought of having a scene with him - there is a flicker of excitement, that dulled heat in your belly - even though you know that logically, it will all be purely professional.
It’s still fun to imagine.
The door cracks open, but there’s something else with the sound. You frown, your head whipping towards the woods behind you. Searching for the source of the noise, one that sounded a little too familiar.
“Did I just hear a camera click?”
“Nah,” Dieter shrugs, “There’s no way they know about this place.”
"Yeah,” You hum, giving another glance. There’s nothing but the rustle of trees, the rush of the water. A self-conscious laugh, as you head inside, “Maybe I’m immersing myself too much.”
“No hauntings or serial killers here, sweetheart.” He smiles, “But if you’re scared I have a few ideas to get your mind off things…”
The door clicks shut behind him.
Your eyebrow arches, “Oh yeah? Like what?”
Dieter pretends to think, as he advances on you. Hands reaching out to trace up your sides, pulling you flush against him.
“Can think of a scene I’d like to start with,” He husks, eyes darkening, “There’s no bunk bed here, but I think we can make do.
Hunger flares in you, now that you're alone. Your eyes dip to the curl of his mouth, no more than a breath before you’re pressing your lips to his. A rough moan as his hands slide up your back, his tongue already brushing across your lower lip.
Tasting sweet when they part for him, your own moan swallowed as you lose your grip on your bag, letting it tumble to the floor.
It’s always so easy to get lost in him. If you’re not careful, you might just get swept away.
“You don’t want to see what the directors have in mind?” You tease, when you pull back for a breath, “Hold off on that scene until later?”
“No can do.” Dieter groans, as he pulls you back to him, “Not with you looking like this.”
You can’t help the smile, as you start the stumbling journey through the main room, wandering hands and the press of mouths.
His hand grasping your ass as your fingers slip under his shirt - the other reaching for the door he has you backed up against. A creaking swing, as it opens.
Dieter’s hands are at your hips, as soon as the back of your knees hit the bed.
“Let me taste you, baby.” It’s mumbled against your lips. His fingers dipping beneath your waistband. A nail tracing the edge of your underwear, raising goosebumps, “Been thinking about it all day.”
You remember this from before. How focused he gets. Willing to beg, shameless, if there’s something he wants.
And you’re always willing to give.
The bed is soft - covered in worn buffalo-checkered sheets - as you let yourself be lowered onto it. His hands catch your ankles, tugging you down until your legs drape off the edge.
Spread wide, so he can fit between them as he kneels. Batting your hand away as you go to push down your shorts.
“I wanna do it.” He hums. His own shorts already pulled tight, a hand coming to palm himself in anticipation.
Your hips lift for him. Nails bite into skin, grasping fabric and pulling down both layers. Easing them around the bulk of your gym shoes so his palms can press into your thighs, spreading them even wider.
A rough noise, when he sees you.
“You been thinking about this too, babe?” He coos, a thumb pressing against your slit. Rolling against the wet gleam of your center, as it betrays your desire.
You huff, the muscles in your legs flexing. Breath held as your eyes flit up to his, waiting. Watching, as he sucks your slick from his skin with a groan.
“Bet you were. Saw you eye-fucking me in the limo, all while telling me to keep my hands to myself.”
"I-I," You try to answer. To protest - to say you weren't - but his palms are smoothing up your skins. Distracting, as he slowly moves.
Those eyes focused on yours as his head tips. An open-mouthed kiss to your knee, then thigh. Moving up, as your heart races.
Inner thigh, now.
"Dee," There's a buck of your hips, with your whine, “Don’t tease.”
It’s futile, you’re certain. Unable to take what you dish out. But perhaps he’s been pushed too far as well.
“Tell me you need it.” His pupils are blown-wide, drunken already.
It’s easy to answer.
“Please. I need you.”
The next kiss is right against your slit. Messy, as his mouth covers you. Your fingers twisting in the blanket, as your knees press against his shoulders.
He’s too good. Teasing with the wet brush of his tongue. The slow creep of his fingers, the tip of one pressing against your entrance - only to withdraw just as you clench down.
Again, and then again. Slowly sinking into you, one knuckle at a time. Working you open, until you’re stretched wide around three of them - too full to form words.
“Don’t need direction for this,” His eyes flip to yours, a dimpled smile as his fingers sink deep and then curl, “Do I, baby?”
He does it again, as your answer pitches high. Your hips bucking into his touch as his tongue licks at you again. Timing it so that the point of his tongue teases your clit, each time his fingers rub against the spongey spot inside you.
He’s going to make you come. You’re too wound up, too needy for him.
“Fuck, Dieter.” You keen - your leg hooking over his shoulder, “Oh fuck, keep doing that-“
“That’s it baby,” He grins, “Improvise for me.”
It makes you laugh, which has him groaning as you tighten around his fingers. His left hand dropping to push down the waistband of his shorts. Fingers pulling from you only long enough to smear your arousal on his cock, to pump his fist until he’s covered.
It’s then that you think you hear it again. Just as his tongue slips inside you. Another mechanical sound from outside, just barely audible through the wooden walls.
“Dee,” You moan, fingers twisting in his hair. Either to pull him closer or push him away, you’re not sure, “I d-definitely heard-”
“Can’t see in here.” It’s mumbled out, gasped between your thighs.
He’s seen to that, at least. The blinds thick, the bedroom tucked away.
A grin, as his tongue flattens - licking from hole to clit, “Wasn’t planning on leaving, anyways.”
You trust him, knowing he wouldn't leave you vulnerable. The sound in your throat is muffled as your teeth clench, “But they-, what if they hear us?”
It’s only now that his head lifts, those dark eyes blown wide. Paired with a lazy smile, his lips shining as they stretch wide.
A soft croon.
“Then I guess you’d better be quiet.”
Your laugh turns into a soft groan, at the flick of his tongue. Self-conscious perhaps, but not wholly and entirely deterred by the thought of an audience.
Not when you’re with him.
“Keep that up,” You manage - as something molten floods through your belly, “And you might have to help a girl out.”
His weight presses into you as he moves up - heated, bare skin as he settles between your thighs. Dieter’s nose skimming your throat, as his hand slips between your thighs.
Just before his mouth presses to yours, swallowing you moan.
“That, baby… I can do.”

There are several foods that are known to support brain health and cognitive function. Incorporating these foods into your diet can help boost memory, focus, and overall brain health. Some of the best foods for brain health include:
1. Fatty fish: Fatty fish like salmon, trout, and sardines are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, particularly DHA, which is essential for brain health. Omega-3s have been linked to improved brain function and may help reduce the risk of cognitive decline.
2. Blueberries: Blueberries are packed with antioxidants, which help protect the brain from oxidative stress and inflammation. They have also been shown to improve memory and cognitive function.
3. Dark chocolate: Dark chocolate contains flavonoids, which have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that can enhance brain function. It may also improve mood and cognitive function.
4. Nuts and seeds: Nuts and seeds, such as almonds, walnuts, flaxseeds, and chia seeds, are rich in nutrients like omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, and vitamin E, which are beneficial for brain health.
5. Leafy green vegetables: Leafy greens like spinach, kale, and broccoli are high in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals that support brain health. They also contain compounds that may help protect the brain from age-related decline.
6. Turmeric: Turmeric contains a compound called curcumin, which has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that may benefit brain health. It has been linked to improved memory and mood.
7. Eggs: Eggs are a good source of choline, a nutrient that is essential for brain health and development. Choline plays a role in neurotransmitter function and may enhance cognitive performance.
8. Berries: Berries like strawberries, blackberries, and raspberries are rich in antioxidants and other compounds that can protect the brain from oxidative stress and inflammation. They may also improve memory and cognitive function.
In addition to incorporating these brain-boosting foods into your diet, it's important to maintain a balanced and varied diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats to support overall brain health. Regular physical activity, adequate sleep, and mental stimulation are also important factors in maintaining a healthy brain.

you have abnos???? ooooooo......
pelase elbrate....... if not an isue....
i have beasts !!! :] idont talk abt them very much but ilike them a lot.. one day i might write a full thing for all of em but ican give a rundown hwehe ^_^
This Place Won't Stay - [EGO: With The Tide] Duty and Inevitability; Thankless Jobs. A mostly humanoid abnormality with the exception of having the head and tail of a fish. appeared to me in a dream. takes heavy inspiration from salmon, but looks more like a rainbow trout. very no-nonsense and constantly at work; it is Deathly serious despite the way it looks. the idea of responsibility-- jobs that only you can do. tied inextricably with death, yet working for the benefit of many. the greater good. living, working; not for any personal gain, but simply out of obligation, habit, nature. equal parts resentment and pride, it toils in an endless cycle; laying claim to none of the fruits of its labor other than the cold satisfaction that its served its purpose.
Pious Nightingale - [EGO: The Fool] Well-Meaning yet ultimately Self-Centered Hubris. A small, plain bird adorned with a lavish red cape and jeweled gold crown. draws from The Nightingale fairytale. it sings of tales of grandeur and eclectic feats, sparking inspiration in any that hear its voice. lands from afar and things beyond the imagination; it can show you all of them. a silver-tongued creature of many stories-- however, it is still simply a plain, ordinary bird. it insists it can solve any problem, lead everyone to true freedom; yet all these experiences it claims to know are naught but stories. its never lived them itself. it insists it can save anyone and everyone; yet cannot talk itself out of the gilded cage where its lived its whole life. the blind leading the blind.
Whispers of Another Life - [EGO: Hiraeth] Misplacement; Yearning for that which doesn't exist. A vaguely humanoid shape that takes the form of a rapidly shifting child's drawing, hastily cut out of paper. the elusive desire to Belong, rapidly changing the self in order to fit into a perceived 'gap' in the perfect image of How Things Should Be. it riles itself into hysteria searching for something it sorely misses, yet never truly had. yet, in trying to change itself so rapidly, it can never truly fit in anywhere. all it has to do is get it right. all it has to do is keep trying. the pieces will surely fit together next time. or the next, or the next, or the next.

Excerpt from this story from The Revelator:
The removal of four hydroelectric dams on the Klamath River in southern Oregon and Northern California has been recognized as the largest dam removal in U.S. history. More notably, it’s also the largest salmon-restoration project to date.
In late September I watched an excavator take large bites out of the cofferdam at Iron Gate, the most downstream of the dams.
Just over two weeks later, a crew spotted a pair of salmon spawning in one of the tributaries above Iron Gate, where the fish had not previously been able to reach. On Oct. 16 biologists spied fall Chinook salmon at the mouth of a tributary in Oregon. This spot, 230 miles from the ocean, is above all four of the former dam sites.
The speed of the salmon’s return has astonished even the most seasoned biologists.
“Even though we’ve been anticipating the moment, it’s not until you see that first Chinook…I don’t know; I’m still in shock,” says Mark Hereford, project leader of the Klamath anadromous restoration program at Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, who found the fish in the Oregon tributary.
News of the salmon’s return prompted a flurry of texts and excited phone calls among fish advocates. Their return is especially poignant to members of the Klamath Tribes, whose ancestral lands include the upper Klamath Basin above the dam sites. With the construction of the dams, salmon, or c’iyaals, had been absent from the Upper Basin for over 100 years.
Now attention is shifting from the massive dam-removal project to the equally enormous task ahead: restoring the Klamath watershed. Biologists will look to the fish themselves for guidance.
The Klamath River supports fall and spring Chinook, coho, and steelhead, along with other important species like Pacific lamprey. All are expected to benefit from dam removal.
Biologists are using every means possible to detect and track salmon as they explore their new habitat. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife has installed “video weirs” to capture images of salmon in key tributaries; the agency also has crews on the ground surveying spawning salmon. Also in California, the nonprofit Cal Trout has installed a sonar monitoring station just above the former Iron Gate dam. Cal Trout is also leading a project to sample fish using special nets near the Iron Gate dam site; these hands-on surveys will provide a week-by-week snapshot of fish in the river. The crew are fitting some of these fish with radio tags and passive integrated transponders, or PIT tags, so they can track them as they move upstream.
In the upper basin, ODFW is working with the Klamath Tribes, university researchers, and other partners to conduct spawning surveys and set up monitoring stations to detect tagged fish.
“It will help us answer the question: Are fish moving into the new habitat, and if so, what species?” says Hereford.
This intensive monitoring will continue for at least four years. Besides informing restoration, the efforts will also reveal how fish respond to some of the challenging conditions in the upper basin.

Mushroom Cave vs Fruit Bat Cave
I've rewritten this post like four seperate times to the point i thought I had already posted it BUT I have not! Lucky ducky me!
I have been curious about which cave is technically better, especially since I see a lot of people are deadset on it being the fruit bat cave when I am a mushroom cave defender, so I am going to compare the two here!
What is the cave that you normally pick when you start a new save?
Divider Credit
Mushroom Cave
Pros:
Six boxes + A dehydrator
Spawns mushrooms even if theyre out of season
Spawns Common Mushroom, Red Mushroom, Purple Mushroom, Chanterelle and Morel
Helpful for Fall Foraging Bundle, Dye Bundle, Exotic Foraging Bundle, and Field Research Bundle
Helpful for crafting Life Elixir and Fall Seeds (and in turn, tea saplings)
Helpful for cooking Fried Mushroom, Tom Kha Soup, and Stir Fry
Purple Mushroom is a loved gift for the Wizard
Can make dehydrated mushrooms
Isn't obsolete after growing fruit trees
For sure produces every other day
You can customize your cave without risk of it
Helpful for three quests, all three reoccuring
Helpful for 9 unique fishpond quests, 11 total, which are as follows:
Common Mushroom: 2-3 from Bullhead, Largemouth Bass, Midnight Carp or Woodskip
Red Mushroom: 2-3 from Catfish, Spookfish or Woodskip
Purple Mushroom: 2-3 from Catfish, Rainbow Trout, Spook Fish, or Super Cucumber
Cons:
Mushrooms are always normal quality, even with Botanist Profession
Harvesting Mushrooms doesn't award any foraging XP
Other Areas Mushrooms Can Spawn:
Common Mushroom: Fall Season, Fall Seeds, Secret Woods in Spring and Fall, and Tapping a Mushroom Tree
Red Mushroom: The Mines, Secret Woods in Summer and Fall, and Tapping a Mushroom Tree
Purple Mushroom: The Mines, Tapping a Mushroom Tree in Summar and Fall
Chanterelle: Secret Woods in Fall
Morel: Secret Woods in Spring
Total Number of Pros: 16 Total Number of Cons: 2 Difference: 14 points
Tumblr media
Fruit Bat Cave
Pros:
Can spawn up to 50 fruit.
Spawns fruit even if they're out of season
Spawns Cherrys, Pomegranate, Peach, Apple, Orange, Spice Berry, Apricot, Wild Plum, Blackberry, and Salmonberry
Helpful for Artisan Bundle, Enchanter's Bundle, Fodder Bundle, Summer Foraging Bundle, and Fall Foraging Bundle
Helpful for crafting Summer Seeds and Fall Seeds
Helpful for cooking Cranberry Candy, Fruit Salad, Plum Pudding and Blackberry Cobbler
Provides Loved Gifts for Elliott (Pomegranate), Robin (Peach), and Gus (Orange)
Can make wine, jelly, and dried fruits
Fruit can be of any quality
You benefit from the botanist profession and the gatherer profession
You earn foraging XP
Helpful for 4 quests (3 reocurring)
Cons:
Cannot customize cave as that reduces the amount of tiles where the fruit can spawn, even if it is crafted flooring.
After growing fruit trees it becomes, essentially, obsolete. Especially with the green house.
Not collecting fruit reduces the amount of fruit that can spawn overnight. For example if you have no fruit there is a 48% chance of NO new fruit spawning, but if you have ten fruit in it that chance raises to 54%
Not used in any fish pond quests
No guarentee that fruit will spawn overnight.
Other Areas Fruit Can Spawn:
Cherry: Cherry Tree in Spring (year round in greenhouse)
Apricot: Apricot Tree in Spring (year round in greenhouse)
Peach: Peach Tree in Summer (year round in greenhouse)
Orange: Orange Tree in Summer (year round in greenhouse)
Pomegranate: Pomegranate Tree in Fall (year round in greenhouse)
Apple: Apple Tree in Fall (year round in greenhouse)
Salmonberry: Bushes throughout the valley on days 15-18 in Spring.
Blackberry: Bushes throughout the valley on days 8-11 in Fall, Fall Seeds (growin in fall or year round if planted in Greenhouse)
Spice Berry: Foraging in Summer, Summer Seeds (grown in summer or year round if planted in Greenhouse)
Wild Plum: Foraging in Fall, Fall Seeds (grown in fall or year round if planted in Greenhouse)
Total Number of Pros: 12 Total Number of Cons: 5 Difference: 7 points

Natural remedies - storage of cure for ailments
Do you visit site here remember how your grandma used to fix a mixture and cure all your ailments? Whether it was cold, cough, fever or a simple wound, she had the cure for it all.
She would pull out ingredients from her secret box and you would be cured! Did you know that her secret box actually included some natural remedies that were passed on to her from her mother? Brain power and memory enhancement
Studies have found that there is a connection between omega-3 fatty acids supplements and cognitive function of humans. Those who had regular intake of this ingredient possessed better memory. They also showed better brain power and their thinking was deeper than the rest. Further, they showed better concentration than those who did not have omega-3 fatty acids. Thus, it can easily be stated that the lack of this ingredient can cause your brain to age faster. One can also lose memory and thinking abilities faster.

Camping Out
by Ernest Hemingway
Thousands of people will go into the bush this summer to cut the high cost of living. A man who gets his two weeks’ salary while he is on vacation should be able to put those two weeks in fishing and camping and be able to save one week’s salary clear. He ought to be able to sleep comfortably every night, to eat well every day and to return to the city rested and in good condition.
But if he goes into the woods with a frying pan, an ignorance of black flies and mosquitoes, and a great and abiding lack of knowledge about cookery, the chances are that his return will be very different. He will come back with enough mosquito bites to make the back of his neck look like a relief map of the Caucasus. His digestion will be wrecked after a valiant battle to assimilate half-cooked or charred grub. And he won’t have had a decent night’s sleep while he has been gone.
He will solemnly raise his right hand and inform you that he has joined the grand army of never-agains. The call of the wild may be all right, but it’s a dog’s life. He’s heard the call of the tame with both ears. Waiter, bring him an order of milk toast.
In the first place, he overlooked the insects. Black flies, no-see-ums, deer flies, gnats and mosquitoes were instituted by the devil to force people to live in cities where he could get at them better. If it weren’t for them everybody would live in the bush and he would be out of work. It was a rather successful invention.
But there are lots of dopes that will counteract the pests. The simplest perhaps is oil of citronella. Two bits’ worth of this purchased at any pharmacist’s will be enough to last for two weeks in the worst fly and mosquito-ridden country.
Rub a little on the back of your neck, your forehead, and your wrists before you start fishing, and the blacks and skeeters will shun you. The odor of citronella is not offensive to people. It smells like gun oil. But the bugs do hate it.
Oil of pennyroyal and eucalyptol are also much hated by mosquitoes, and with citronella, they form the basis for many proprietary preparations. But it is cheaper and better to buy the straight citronella. Put a little on the mosquito netting that covers the front of your pup tent or canoe tent at night, and you won’t be bothered.
To be really rested and get any benefit out of a vacation a man must get a good night’s sleep every night. The first requisite for this is to have plenty of cover. It is twice as cold as you expect it will be in the bush four nights out of five, and a good plan is to take just double the bedding that you think you will need. An old quilt that you can wrap up in is as warm as two blankets.
Nearly all outdoor writers rhapsodize over the browse bed. It is all right for the man who knows how to make one and has plenty of time. But in a succession of one-night camps on a canoe trip all you need is level ground for your tent floor and you will sleep all right if you have plenty of covers under you. Take twice as much cover as you think that you will need, and then put two-thirds of it under you. You will sleep warm and get your rest.
When it is clear weather you don’t need to pitch your tent if you are only stopping for the night. Drive four stakes at the head of your made-up bed and drape your mosquito bar over that, then you can sleep like a log and laugh at the mosquitoes.
Outside of insects and bum sleeping the rock that wrecks most camping trips is cooking. The average tyro’s idea of cooking is to fry everything and fry it good and plenty. Now, a frying pan is a most necessary thing to any trip, but you also need the old stew kettle and the folding reflector baker.
A pan of fried trout can’t be bettered and they don’t cost any more than ever. But there is a good and bad way of frying them.
The beginner puts his trout and his bacon in and over a brightly burning fire; the bacon curls up and dries into a dry tasteless cinder and the trout is burned outside while it is still raw inside. He eats them and it is all right if he is only out for the day and going home to a good meal at night. But if he is going to face more trout and bacon the next morning and other equally well-cooked dishes for the remainder of two weeks he is on the pathway to nervous dyspepsia.
The proper way is to cook over coals. Have several cans of Crisco or Cotosuet or one of the vegetable shortenings along that are as good as lard and excellent for all kinds of shortening. Put the bacon in and when it is about half cooked lay the trout in the hot grease, dipping them in cornmeal first. Then put the bacon on top of the trout and it will baste them as it slowly cooks.
The coffee can be boiling at the same time and in a smaller skillet pancakes being made that are satisfying the other campers while they are waiting for the trout.
With the prepared pancake flours you take a cupful of pancake flour and add a cup of water. Mix the water and flour and as soon as the lumps are out it is ready for cooking. Have the skillet hot and keep it well greased. Drop the batter in and as soon as it is done on one side loosen it in the skillet and flip it over. Apple butter, syrup or cinnamon and sugar go well with the cakes.
While the crowd have taken the edge from their appetites with flapjacks the trout have been cooked and they and the bacon are ready to serve. The trout are crisp outside and firm and pink inside and the bacon is well done—but not too done. If there is anything better than that combination the writer has yet to taste it in a lifetime devoted largely and studiously to eating.
The stew kettle will cook your dried apricots when they have resumed their predried plumpness after a night of soaking, it will serve to concoct a mulligan in, and it will cook macaroni. When you are not using it, it should be boiling water for the dishes.
In the baker, mere man comes into his own, for he can make a pie that to his bush appetite will have it all over the product that mother used to make, like a tent. Men have always believed that there was something mysterious and difficult about making a pie. Here is a great secret. There is nothing to it. We’ve been kidded for years. Any man of average office intelligence can make at least as good a pie as his wife.
All there is to a pie is a cup and a half of flour, one-half teaspoonful of salt, one-half cup of lard and cold water. That will make pie crust that will bring tears of joy into your camping partner’s eyes.
Mix the salt with the flour, work the lard into the flour, make it up into a good workmanlike dough with cold water. Spread some flour on the back of a box or something flat, and pat the dough around a while. Then roll it out with whatever kind of round bottle you prefer. Put a little more lard on the surface of the sheet of dough and then slosh a little flour on and roll it up and then roll it out again with the bottle.
Cut out a piece of the rolled out dough big enough to line a pie tin. I like the kind with holes in the bottom. Then put in your dried apples that have soaked all night and been sweetened, or your apricots, or your blueberries, and then take another sheet of the dough and drape it gracefully over the top, soldering it down at the edges with your fingers. Cut a couple of slits in the top dough sheet and prick it a few times with a fork in an artistic manner.
Put it in the baker with a good slow fire for forty-five minutes and then take it out and if your pals are Frenchmen they will kiss you. The penalty for knowing how to cook is that the others will make you do all the cooking.
It is all right to talk about roughing it in the woods. But the real woodsman is the man who can be really comfortable in the bush.
"Camping Out" by Ernest Hemingway was originally published in the Toronto Daily Star on June 26, 1920.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Fuel for the Brain - How DHA and EPA Enhance Brain Functions
Tumblr media
Are you ready to unlock the secret to a healthier brain? Look no further than omega-3 fatty acids! These power-packed nutrients can do wonders for your brain health. Let's dive into the incredible benefits of omega-3s and discover how they can boost your cognitive abilities. Get ready to embrace a brain-boosting journey that will leave you feeling sharper and more focused than ever!
2. Memory and Learning: Omega-3s are involved in synaptic plasticity, which is the ability of brain cells to form and strengthen connections. This process is crucial for learning and memory formation. Studies have suggested that higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids are associated with better cognitive performance, improved memory, and reduced risk of age-related cognitive decline.
3. Mood and Mental Health: Omega-3s have been linked to improved mood and mental health. They play a role in regulating neurotransmitters involved in mood, such as serotonin and dopamine. Studies have shown that omega-3 supplementation may help reduce symptoms of depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder.
Tumblr media
4. Neuroprotection: Omega-3s possess anti-inflammatory properties and help protect the brain against oxidative stress. Chronic inflammation and oxidative damage can contribute to neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. Omega-3 fatty acids have been shown to reduce the risk of these diseases and slow down their progression.
5. Brain Aging: As we age, the brain undergoes natural changes that can affect cognitive function. Omega-3 fatty acids may help support brain health and protect against age-related cognitive decline. Studies have suggested that a higher intake of omega-3s is associated with a reduced risk of dementia and Alzheimer's disease.
It's important to note that while omega-3 fatty acids are essential for brain health, they are not a magic solution. A balanced diet, regular exercise, quality sleep, and overall healthy lifestyle habits are also crucial for optimal brain function. Adding omega-3-rich foods like fatty fish (salmon, mackerel, sardines), flaxseeds, chia seeds, and walnuts to your diet or considering omega-3 supplementation under the guidance of a healthcare professional can help support brain health.

Submerged
Summary: Logan's job at the aquarium comes with its fair share of benefits. A decent paycheck, a close-up view of the plethora of marine life the institution has on display, and a mer person for a boyfriend. Of course, that doesn't mean there are not also risks, most of which stem from the shenanigans of the brown-haired, tentacled man floating idly in a lone fish tank. Pairings: Logan/Remus Warnings: Drowning Characters: Logan, Remus Notes: Written for the TSS Fanworks Collective's January Remix Challenge! This is a remix of @the-princey-pie's fic, Entangled. [AO3 link]
There are many benefits to being a marine biologist. Unfortunately for Logan, he isn’t quite that privileged. Yet. Rather than having the opportunity to professionally examine a plethora of aquatic lifeforms, he is simply the equivalent of a janitor at the local aquarium, wiping the glass surfaces of the tanks clean of dirt and grubby fingerprints after closing.
Thankfully, this monotonous task is made ever so slightly more bearable by a certain person: Logan’s significant other. He goes by Remus, but contrary to what people may believe upon hearing that name, he’s far from human. Conveniently enough, he also happens to live in the very aquarium Logan works at, making it laughably easy for the two of them to meet. Most of the time, they simply engage in some idle conversation, allowing Logan to focus on his job while still giving his boyfriend the attention he demands. Some days, however, Remus gets… a little carried away. This, of course, leads to all sorts of trouble every single time, without fail.
Today is no different.
“Logan,” Remus whines, his nasally voice echoing throughout the large, empty room. Some of the water in his tank splashes over the edge as he fidgets eagerly, his tentacles wiggling. “Logan, my trout-ed love, I desire love and affection from my darling boyfriend.”
Logan’s expression is blank, devoid of any sort of visible emotion. He squints at the surface of a nearby tank and begins wiping away a smudge, watching Remus out of the corner of his eye. “I will give you as much attention as you want when I’m done. You know full well I cannot slack off under any circumstances.”
Remus pouts, leaning forward until he’s practically hanging out of his tank. “Not even for me?” he says, fluttering his lashes.
“Not even for you,” Logan confirms, running a hand through his dishevelled, sweaty hair. He removes his glasses and pulls a sleeve over his hand to wipe the lens before placing them back on his face, waiting a moment for his vision to readjust before turning to face his boyfriend. “Now, I need to get into your tank to clean the inside. No funny business, alright?”
“I wouldn’t dream of it, coraling.” Remus winks, sinking back into the water, and Logan feels a faint buildup of dread. He gets the feeling he might as well accept his imminent fate; Remus isn’t exactly the type of person to simply take no for an answer and move on. Retrieving his wetsuit, he heads to the employee break room, emerging several minutes later with his work clothes in his arms. Tossing them onto a nearby bench, he returns to Remus’ tank, gesturing for him to move aside as he removes his glasses and gathers the items he requires for the operation: a waterlife safe synthetic sponge, goggles, and his submersible breathing apparatus. Remus sticks his tentacles to the glass to stabilise his centre of gravity, watching with loving eyes as Logan climbs into the tank, shuddering when he makes contact with the cold water.
Placing the breathing apparatus in his mouth, Logan ducks his head beneath the water, immediately getting to work wiping down the smudged, ink-stained glass. Meanwhile, Remus remains suspiciously still, staying out of Logan’s way as he works diligently. Five minutes pass, then ten… Eventually, Logan is finished, every surface of the inner tank practically sparkling. Satisfied with his work, he moves to exit the tank, though he can’t help but wonder why Remus was so compliant this time around. Honestly, he expected him to–
Slimy, wet tentacles wrap around Logan’s torso without any semblance of a warning whatsoever, startling him so badly he almost spits out his breathing apparatus. He’s pulled into Remus’ chest, and though he’s embarrassed to admit it, he partially melts into the embrace, momentarily forgetting that he is still on the clock. Though they’re underwater, Logan can still feel Remus’ warm breath tickling his ear as he leans in close, moustache twitching.
“Y’know, sea shelly mine,” Remus murmurs, stroking Logan’s face with a tentacle and bumping their foreheads together, grinning. “You look pretty good in that wetsuit.”
Logan’s cheeks burn, and he curls in on himself, though Remus does not release him from the embrace. Making use of a tentacle once again, he tucks it under Logan’s chin and lifts his head. The two of them lock eyes, and Remus giggles.
“You’re adorable when you’re flustered, you know that?”
The tentacle withdraws, and before Logan has a chance to react, his breathing apparatus has been practically ripped out of his mouth. While he’s still underwater. Which, as any normal person could easily figure out, is very bad. Having managed to hold his breath just before the apparatus was removed, Logan begins to squirm in Remus’ hold, the agonising urge to breathe quickly washing over him as the seconds pass. Remus leans in close, eyeballing Logan’s lips, but upon seeing his strained expression, he stops. His brow furrows, though his grip on his boyfriend only tightens.
“Logan?” Logan’s vision begins to warp and blur, and he can tell it isn’t because of the water. “Hey, what’s–”
The breathing reflex kicks in before Logan is consciously aware of it. A large mouthful of water rushes down his throat, and he starts coughing, tears building up in his eyes. Remus’ eyes widen as Logan begins fighting to escape his grasp, thrashing and kicking. The colour slowly drains from his face, and the situation finally clicks for Remus.
Remus is mer. Logan isn’t. Remus can breathe underwater. Logan can’t. At least not without the device Remus just pulled out of his mouth.
“Fuck.” Logan is visibly losing steam, his eyes dull. Eventually, he goes limp, and a lump lodges itself into Remus' throat. “Shit–” Wracking his brain for Logan’s advice regarding a drowning – that’s what this is, right? – he chooses to start with the most logical action: getting Logan out of the water. It takes some time, but he’s eventually able to safely get the two of them out of the tank, though he’s left with a few sore tentacles. In his defence, how was he supposed to know the fall from the tank would be so far? Alright, that’s off topic– off topic. He may have Logan back on land, but that doesn’t mean he’s in the clear.
A glint in the corner of Remus’ eye catches his attention, and he looks over at the bench where Logan left his work clothes. The shine appears to be coming from the sun reflecting on–
Logan's phone.
“It’s best to contact emergency services if possible. Paramedics are better equipped to handle those kinds of situations. If it comes to that, you just have to dial their number…”
Remus has Logan’s phone in his grasp before he can really think about it. Upon turning it on, he’s prompted to enter a passcode. Luckily, he’s seen Logan enter it a number of times, so unlocking the device poses no issue. Recalling his boyfriend’s description of the app that is required to make the call, he taps on the green box with a white image of a wired phone, opening the dial screen. Remus has the number memorised; just three simple digits.
911.
He presses call.

Logan wakes to a pressure on his chest and the lingering taste of bile on his tongue. He’s turned onto his side as he begins coughing, water spilling from his mouth and onto the tiled floor. His head spins, his vision swimming, though despite his dazed state, he recognises that he is still in the aquarium. A face peers down at him with concern, but it isn’t one he recognises. The stranger calls out to someone Logan cannot see before smiling back down at him and wrapping something around his upper arm.
“Hi there,” the stranger says, glancing at something beside them for a brief moment before shifting their attention back to Logan once again. “My name’s Thomas, I’m a paramedic.” Logan’s eyes widen, and the paramedic – clearly instinctively – places a hand firmly on his shoulder, likely expecting him to fight– or at least something to that effect. “Sorry– Hey, there’s no need to panic, alright? We’re just making sure you’re okay. We received a call for a drowning, and by the looks of things, you seem to have gotten pretty lucky. We’re probably gonna take you back to the hospital for a proper examination just so we can make absolutely sure you’re not still at risk.”
Logan nods, keeping as still as possible as the paramedics continue to bustle around him, the beeping of their machines ringing in his ears. Thomas stays by his side, the hand on Logan’s shoulder keeping him grounded. During this time, however, he has the lingering feeling that he’s forgetting something…
It doesn’t take him too long to figure it out.
“Remus,” Logan gasps, reaching up to grab Thomas’ sleeve. “Where– Where’s Remus?”
Thomas blinks, his brow furrowing in thought. “Uh… I don’t think any of us saw anyone else around when we got here.” His eyes suddenly light up with revelation. “Now that I think about it, I remember hearing something about this being an anonymous call. Could that have been him?”
Logan exhales shakily and nods again. “Yes, I… I believe that would have been him.”
Thomas begins gnawing on his lip, glancing around without really looking at anything in particular. “Okay… Well, if you give us his phone number, someone could–”
“No.” The response escapes before Logan can stop it. “No, that– That won’t be necessary.”
“Are you sure? It really wouldn’t be a problem–”
“I’m sure.” It would be all well and good if Remus were human, but Logan has an inkling the hospital staff wouldn’t exactly have an ordinary reaction to a man with tentacles walking in and asking to see his boyfriend who almost drowned in his own tank at an aquarium. Things wouldn’t end well, to say the least.
“Alright…” Thomas doesn’t press any further, though that gentle look of concern settles back onto his face. “Well, do you have any other family we could call? Parents? Siblings?”
Logan’s silence is enough of an answer. Thomas releases a slow breath before looking over his shoulder, calling another paramedic over as the others around them start packing up the machines and other equipment, making room for another to hurriedly walk inside, pushing a stretcher in with them.
“We’re gonna get you loaded into the ambulance now,” Thomas murmurs, smiling. “Like I said, this is just a precaution, so don’t worry. Chances are you’ll be fine, and you’ll be out of the hospital in just a few hours.”
Logan doesn’t doubt that. Cases similar to his are rarely ever kept longer than what is necessary for a simple observation. If he’s lucky, he’ll be home before nightfall. He says nothing as the paramedics load him onto a stretcher, refraining from commenting that it isn’t really necessary, even if it is ‘just a precaution’.
Getting Logan outside and into the ambulance takes several minutes, as the paramedics are forced to navigate the labyrinth-like structure of the aquarium. They don’t get lost though, and Logan is rather impressed. When he first started working here, it took him at least three weeks to get the hang of navigating the entire building. Images of Remus’ concerned expression back inside the tank flash in his mind’s eye, and he bites the inside of his cheek. Yes, what Remus did was incredibly stupid, but Logan knows he didn’t do it intentionally. He gets a bit too excitable for his own good at times, and to be honest, Logan can’t really blame him. They don’t see each other too often, so what little time they get to spend time together will always be treasured by the both of them.
Of course, with all this in mind, Logan still plans to have a conversation with his boyfriend the next time they see each other. Not later today, though; that’ll simply be him assuring Remus that he’s okay and that he isn’t going to die. After that, though, Logan intends to have very stern words with his partner. He will reiterate that he isn’t angry; he simply wants to make sure Remus is absolutely sure of the difference between humans and mer, if just for the sake of preventing a repeat of this incident.
He just hopes Remus will actually listen.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is awarding more than $6.4 million to federally recognized Native American and Alaska Native Tribes to benefit fish and wildlife resources and their habitats. This year’s funding will support 35 Tribes for conservation projects across 15 states, benefiting a wide range of wildlife and habitat, including species of cultural or traditional importance to Indigenous communities.
Examples of projects approved this year include:
Sitka Tribe of Alaska (Artificial Intelligence for Subsistence Salmon Monitoring and Management) - $200,000 to install artificial intelligence enabled video that will produce automated real-time counts of Redoubt Lake sockeye salmon, reducing real-time monitoring costs.
Navajo Nation (within Arizona, New Mexico and Utah)(Estimating Abundance, Preserving Traditional Ecological Knowledge, and Resolving Human-Bear Conflict of Black Bears on the Navajo Nation) - $100,000 to assess black bear population on Navajo Nation lands, preserve Traditional Ecological Knowledge in effective habitat management and minimize human-bear conflicts.
Mooretown Rancheria of Maidu Indians of California (Tribal Wildlife and Postfire Restoration for Habitat Connectivity, Pollinator Species and Traditional Ecological Knowledge Plants around Feather Falls) - $197,300 to restore and manage ancestral lands which were devasted by the 2020 North Complex fire, including hiring staff, expanding the Tribal youth program and developing a restoration plan that incorporates Traditional Ecological Knowledge to prioritize culturally significant and endangered species such as the California spotted owl, bald eagle, Sierra Nevada yellow-legged frog and California red-legged frog.
Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians (within Minnesota) (Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians White-tailed Deer and Golden-winged Warbler Critical Habitat Restoration Project: Setting Back Forest Succession to Promote Early Successional Wildlife Species) - $199,872 to create 350 acres of early successional forest habitat, supporting deer population recovery and increasing habitat for golden-winged warblers during breeding season.
Omaha Tribe of Nebraska (Tallgrass Prairie Resource Management) - $199,965 to hire staff to restore, maintain, and enhance habitat for ecologically and culturally significant wildlife species within the Omaha Tribe of Nebraska reservation, including invasive species removal and buffalo management.
Seneca Nation of Indians (within New York) (Seneca Nation Wood Turtle Survey) - $42,713 to tag wood turtles, a culturally important species, with GPS transmitters to track and map home areas and nesting grounds.
Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (within North Carolina)(Leveraging DNA Sampling to Understand and Manage Resources) - $200,000 to continue cutting-edge non-invasive resource management techniques and use environmental DNA (eDNA) and a variety of non-invasive methods (camera, trapping, acoustics, etc.) to evaluate and manage bear populations, sicklefin redhorse, native brook trout, bats, otters, fish, aquatic communities, birds, and amphibians.
